Hair loss is something that every person fears. Hair is the most attractive part of one’s personality. Hair shedding is a part of natural balance- some hairs fall out while others grow in. It becomes a problem when the balance is interrupted, more hairs are falling than the ones growing in.

Hair loss significantly impacts the quality of life. It can lead to depression, anxiety, and social phobia. Depression can lead to a feeling of low mood, lack of interest, loss of energy, and sleep deprivation. It directly affects the mental health of the person.

Causes of Hair Loss

There are different reasons for hair loss. Some have it inherited. Hereditary hair loss is the most common type in the World. It is most often found in men but also occurs in women. It is not a disease but a natural condition.

How to Treat Hair Loss?

There are many ways of curing hair loss. If we enlist them, we find these 3 major cures:

-Hair transplant surgery

-Laser therapy

Medications are available to treat hereditary baldness. The most common drug prescribed is Minoxidil(Rogaine). It comes in liquid and shampoo forms. However it is a slow treatment, it may take months to prevent further hair loss. There also may be some side effects, so one should consult a physician first.

Research published in Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology — Elsevier depicts that patients treated with minoxidil showed a better response rate(38%) than the patients that were not administered with minoxidil.

In the most common type of permanent hair loss, hair transplant surgery is performed. During the procedure, a dermatologist removes hair from the part of the head that has hair and transplants it to the bald spot. It is a painful procedure so the patient is given sedation medicine.

Laser therapy is also available for treating hair loss.

If hair loss is affecting your feelings of self-esteem or self-worth or is causing disruption in your relationships, you may want to consider talking to a therapist about it. The right therapist will provide a non-judgmental ear and help guide you through the feelings that hair loss may be bringing up for you.
